Never Too Early to Start Halloween Planning

September 21, 2013 ♥ Posted in: Journal, Nerd Topics by Kristina Horner

Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday. My housemates and I always throw our group’s Halloween party, I never miss a year when it comes to carving pumpkins, and I’ve already started looking up corn mazes. Not to mention, costume planning.

Some people have made fun of me for starting to plan my Halloween costume in September, but it’s never too early! If you plan on ordering anything for your costume online, you almost HAVE to start early, since shipping can sometimes take upwards of a few weeks!

I’ve never been one to just buy a pre-made costume from one of those Halloween Super Stores that pops up in the month around Halloween, so this kind of foresight is important if you want to make sure your costume is awesome. Which I do. This year I am planning on being Barbie from Toy Story 3. Because of course I need another excuse to buy a skin tight body suit.

Now I just need to convince Joe to dress up as Ken. We’ll see about that. He’s been struggling against it since I first asked him, about a month ago.

I’ve honestly been thinking about this costume since LAST Halloween, when I opted for a team costume rather than doing something solo. Last year’s costume was one of my favorites though, so I don’t regret it.

In honor of all the exciting Harry Potter related news lately as well, I think we’re going to add some big Potter elements to our party this year. That means breaking out the Harry Potter cookbook, concocting some excellent themed drinks, etc. I’m pumped.

I guess there isn’t a huge point to this post, aside to talk about how much I am anticipating everything that surrounds Halloween, and how it’s all right around the corner. I’m curious if anyone else already knows what they’re dressing up as, or have started working on said costume? Let me know in the comments, and I will keep you updated on how the month goes!

I would love to see the costume. It would be great, and while I am sure Joe would rock an ascot, you could have another one of your friends dress up as Ken, and Joe dress up as some hot sexy militarily man that Barbie is swooning over, and have Ken be upset, it would be a great Photo shoot.

That’s an amazing idea. Someone else suggested G I Joe, which could work out nicely.

Me and my sister were going to be Barbies too, but we were going to just pick a spot and stand there all night with a barbie box over each of us! We kind of quit that idea though, because neither of us have time to make the sotumes and boxes. So instead we’ll probably go as Dipper and Mabel from Gravity Falls 😀

Love that! I definitely want to dress as Mabel some time. She has the best sweaters!

I’ve been working on Merlin and Bilbo Cosplays, so I’ll probably use one of those for Halloween this year 🙂 I have a special costume planned for a party, but I’m keeping it under wraps because it’s supposed to be a surprise 🙂

Halloween is a thing in Norway, but not really a “big deal.” You always make it look extremely fun! Your enthusiasm shines through, to say the least 🙂

Aw, thank you! If you ever travel to the US, you should try to be here over Halloween!

I feel like I’m the only one of my friends who’s super excited for Halloween! I’m not sure whether to buy my costume or make it…

Cassidy says:

I always dress up as really weird things lol. This year, me and my friends are going to be different colored crayons, but not the stupid dresses, like big foam costumes. Lat year I was a palm tree, and the year before I was a teal blue iPod classic

That is hilarious. I love it.

Cassidy says:

I just reread that comment and found a grammar error. I feel like an idiot

Cassandra says:

Forget Ken, he’s so boring! You get him to be G.I. Joe! How perfect would that be? Everybody knows Barbie likes him better anyway. That way he could also double as Xander from that BtVS Halloween episode.

I LOVE this idea. I just might be able to convince him to do this. 😀

Jenna says:

I’m also super excited for Halloween! I’ve been walking around my house drinking hot cocoa and insisting it was fall since the beginning of September. I understand what you’re going through with Joe…I asked my boyfriend to dress up as Jack Sparrow when I decided to be Angelica. He said no and is still resisting, of course.

Where I am, people don’t throw many Halloween parties and don’t seem to have a desire to go to one (or else I would host!) and it’s SUCH A BUMMER cause I love Halloween. I love thinking of a costume and going all out.

I think I might go as Jayne from Firefly. I mean I already have a Nerf gun and need an excuse to buy a Jayne hat.
